young and confident, ones set out into the world
the ignorance of youth, the arrogance not to care
and as time goes by a process soon begins
the bright hopes of youth start slowly wearing thin
middle age setting in and hopes begin to fade
opportunites passed by, back to work there's bills to pay
nose to the grindstone put your shoulder to the wheel
put away the dreams of youth and start to act your age
now many years are passed, my eyes are etched in pain
facing the end of life a disillusioned man
looking back upon my youth and at a waste of life
surely better to fight your dreams than let them
slowly die
