I'm an artist with an art that's misunderstood
And I've had it from the start of my childhood
It was a gift from the creator that created good
I'll never lose it if I use it the way that I should
To entertain or explain, perform or inform
To prove, groove, soothe or warm
Schucks, I wants the bucks but that's not my only motive
And if you listen real close you'll notice
As I rhyme I'm expressin' my views
And with the power of choice this is what I choose
But I'm not tryna contest, conquer or compete
I'm just a poet sayin' my poetry to the beat
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
My heart beats the beat that I rap to
And the rhymes that I rap you clap to
I've always had a strong urge to be this way
All I ever wanted to do is say
What's on my mind
With a rhyme
'Cus that's what I do best
And I don't worry about
What the rest think
I just do what I feel
And it feels mighty fine to know that I appeal to some
To see where I'm coming from and where I'm headed in the job
That I have to get done
Raps got me strung
Because it's dope I'm numb
I hear the beat then I become one with the drum
I get so wrapped up and trapped up in the groove
That I become obsessed with the making ya moves
Then I assess my affession
Places to uphold, then show
"It feels mighty fine"
I'll show how I know how to do that job
'Cus I'm a veteran yet I'm improvin' with age
I'm gettin' better 'n' better 'n' smarter 'n' bolder and wiser and brighter
That only means that I hold the mic tighter
And entertainin' on some knowledge you
An entertainer should also be a scholar too
Cause if you think about it that makes it all complete
And I'm a poet sayin' my poetry to the beat
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
I find my state of mind to be creative at times
When I'm supposed to be impressed
But my best rhymes come upon instinct when I don't even think
Loose leaf and ink
Then I resolve and shrink
Into a place in space where only I can travel
With my expression to the session
They all unravel with the flair to compare and make comparisons
Of words 'n' when I'm done they're in unison
Productively, constructively
Done by me
The stimulation
Our sensation
You could never see with the human eye
Although you might try
But remember only I can identify
An if you can't understand
Well I think that's grand
Because note this
I wrote this
And I have planned to get to know you
And show you I'm not full of conceit
I'm just a poet sayin' my poetry to the beat
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
"It feels mighty fine"
"Yeah!"
Yes it's true that you should go for self
Cause you're blessed with health
If you help yourself
And success doesn't always mean gainin' wealth
To me 'cause if I could be content with myself
I'd be just as happy as a millionaire
With a mansion on a hill in Bel Air
And if God is willing
I'll keep fullfillin' my poetic humble
Though I'll still have time to rhyme
'Cause I'm not gettin' younger
As I live
I will give my all to my trade
With pen and paper in the shade
Sippin' lemonade
I got the soul, love a poet
I'm a poet with soul
I'm on a roll
And I know it
And I sho would feel bold
It's ironic
How harmonic
I could blend to words
An adjective with a noun
And a noun with a verb
Without tryna destroy
The greater the feat
Just be a poet sayin' my poetry to the beat
