You're feeling good
You're feeling bad
But words don't satisfy
You have to find another way
to express what's inside
You try to write a little poem
but nothing comes out right
Then you hear your favorite song
and a flash comes to your mind
"I know!" you say
"I'll write a song!"
was your inspiration
For music captures what is lost
in all human expression
But "how to start?"
"Where to begin?"
This is all new to you
Well listen up
and listen good
Cause here are some things to do
You gotta write a chorus
that'll make the girls go, awe!
You gotta use your passion
sing about your love
Ought to have a small joke
Ha ha!
And a line that doesn't rhyme?
Well maybe your blind anger's
what opens up your mind
But the most important part
of any song you write
It's not the style, nor beat, nor tune
it's not the clever words you use
So what could it be?
It's that it comes from the heart
Whether good or bad the day
it doesn't matter either way
Just sing out what it is that you're feeling
But remember this my friends
that every song must reach it's end
So sing lyrics that leave their minds reeling
You got your guitar in your hand
and you want to be her man
Or maybe you've just got something to say
Just pick up three or four chords
I don't think you'll need anymore
Then just let your fingers start to play away
Sick guitar solo!
So now you know just how to write
a song to blow anyone's mind
Make them think you're better at guitar than you really are
So put your chin up
and have some faith
that you can get your feelings straight
Write it down
and practice up
And then you win their hearts
See, writing a song isn't so hard
unless you're wearing a leotard
If you want some more advice
just go back and play this twice
Or listen up to my final list
