The Abbreviators - Greg Songtexte

You didn’t know greg but greg was a patriot,
Not like those assholes flying flags all claim to be.
A patriot of more life and love
Than most of us could ever hope to know
And it’s with the greatest regrets
I took for granted the short time we had.

I didn’t witness the shots that would take a young life
But I heard them through late night phone calls.
It was with naiveté of youth that I assumed you’d be fine...
I didn’t make your recovery but I made your funeral.

There’s a gravestone in a cemetery
I have never seen and buried underneath
It lays a soldier who did not succumb to war.
Well, despite all my searching
All I have are these faded memories
Of a cramped denny’s booth
Where we traded stories and cigarettes.

I still live by advice that you gave me that night,
How I should eat, sleep and fuck when I can.
Don’t stress the small things in life and I’ll get by just fine.
Well I’ll drink to the better days and regrets we’re living with.
